Class VII student in Kandhamal dies after giving birth

Phulbani: Last night, a minor tribal woman allegedly died due to medical malpractice after giving birth to a stillborn child at a government hospital in the Kandhamal district of Odisha.

According to sources, the girl was enrolled in class VII at the residential government-run Girls' High School in Rangaparu, which is within the jurisdiction of the Belghar Police Department in the district's Tumudibandh Block.

The little girl's pregnancy was discovered on September 24 at the government-run school where she lived. The school's headmaster then filed a complaint with the Belghar police.

When the issue was brought to light, the hostel warden was fired for neglect of duty. The school's male student who is said to have been involved in the event was also transferred to a shelter in Berhampur.

The girl was then accommodated in G Udaygiri's Subhadra Mahtab Seva Sadan, a shelter home.

The young woman went into labour on October 5 and delivered a stillborn child at the Community Health Centre in G Udaygiri. Later, she passed away at the hospital late last night from postpartum haemorrhoids.

Family members claimed that medical malpractice was to blame for the death.

The G Udaygiri Police opened an investigation after filing a case.

The young girl's death has caused a cloud of gloom to cover the area.
