Cuttack: In Odisha's Cuttack district, an old woman was allegedly murdered by her neighbor, who suspected her of practicing witchcraft.

According to sources, the heinous event occurred late Wednesday night in Chandanpur village, which is under the jurisdiction of Tangi police station in the district. The event was revealed on Thursday.

Meena Chatar has been identified as the dead. Her son went to Tangi police station and made a written complaint accusing a neighbor of having his mother.

The woman's neighbor allegedly hacked her to death because he feared she was practicing witchcraft and causing damage to his family members.

The accused and his family have been sick with an unknown sickness. Suspecting Meena of using black magic on them, the man killed her with a sharp knife and fled the scene, according to her son.

Police officers and a forensic team responded to the scene and transported the deceased for a post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accused.
