IPS Bansal, named new DGP of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government chose Sunil Kumar Bansal, a 1987-batch IPS officer, as the new Director General of Police (DGP) from among three candidates nominated by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

DGP Abhay, who is set to retire on December 31, will be replaced by him.

Bansal has been on central deputation since 2005 and currently serves as Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in Mumbai. In June 2022, he will reach the age of retirement.

Apart from Bansal, the UPSC is said to have shortlisted Pradeep Kapur and Manoj Chhabra from among the candidates for the position of Odisha DGP.
