Bhubaneswar: On Monday, the COVID-19 death toll in Odisha reached 8,423, with one more death reported in the last 24 hours.

According to the Health Department, a fresh casualty has been reported from Puri district, where a 68-year-old guy succumbed to the condition while also suffering from chronic disease and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

The second wave of COVID deaths in Odisha totaled 6,547, compared to 1,876 in the first wave last year.

In November, 80 people were killed in the state, compared to 134 in October and 346 in September. According to Health Department sources, 2,056 people died in August, compared to 1,903 in July, 1,272 in June, and 737 in May.

In Odisha, the pandemic's second wave has taken the lives of 48 children and adolescents. Between August 10 and August 31, a total of 13 deaths were reported.
