Former MLA Prafulla Jena To Run For Zilla Parishad Member Post

Bhadrak: Prafulla Jena, a former MLA, will run for Zilla Parishad member on a BJD ticket in the panchayat election, which will begin on February 16.

Jena was elected as a Janata Dal MLA from Bhandaripokhari constituency in Bhadrak district in 1991. He had previously won a byelection from the same seat in 1990, which had became vacant after then-MLA late Arjun Charan Sethi was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bhadrak.

When Arjun Sethi and his son Abhimanyu Sethi were denied BJD tickets in 2019, they, along with Prafulla Jena, defected to the BJP.

Jena, on the other hand, has rejoined the BJD and is running for Zilla Parishad zone 15 in the panchayat election.

The state's panchayat elections will be held in five phases beginning February 16, according to the State Election Commission's notification.

The polling will take place on the 16th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, and 24th of February, according to the schedule. On the 26th, 27th, and 28th of February, the votes will be counted at the block level.
