Sambalpur: Since Wednesday, the water level in the Hirakud reservoir in Sambalpur, Odisha, has been rising. On Saturday, the officials opened eight more sluice gates to let surplus floodwaters out.

In the previous two days, the reservoir administration opened 20 gates.

Bijay Kumar Mishra told the reporters, "6 lakh cusec water will reach Mundali by tomorrow 8 am, while the water level in Baitarani and Jalka is rising.

On July 18, the Hirakud Dam let go the first floodwaters of this season into the Mahanadi River.
