Chennai: On Thursday night, a student from Odisha, age 21, was discovered dead in his room at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras.

Subhranshu Sarkar, a fourth-year aeronautical engineering student, has been named.

Subhranshu spent the entire day in his room, and when his pals knocked on his door in the evening, there was no reaction, according to Kotturpuram police. He was discovered dead in the room when the door was busted open.

The body was afterwards taken by police and taken to Royapettah Government Hospital for an autopsy.

Media was informed by IIT-M authorities that Subranshu's parents were travelling to the college campus to pick up the body.

According to his friends, who were quoted by the news agency, Subhranshu had apparently been depressed for the past few days. His Keralan classmate further explained that while the university has rigorous academic standards, some students have been depressed as a result.

This occurred not long after a 23-year-old student from IIT, Hyderabad committed suicide on September 7 at a lodge close to the college where he was residing. He was a Rajasthani native. On August 31, another second-year MTech student at the institute allegedly hanged himself in his dorm on campus.
