Bargarh: On Tuesday, a joint team of STF and Forest inspectors captured a live pangolin from a villager's home in the district.

The squad raided Jagat Thela's house in Negipalli village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Bheden police station, based on valid information. They seized the live pangolin and other incriminating evidence from Jagat's possession during the search of the house.

Jagat was held and eventually handed over to Baragarh Forest officials for legal action after he was unable to present any documentation proving his ownership of the pangolin. The live pangolin was given to the DFO in Baragarh for safekeeping. More research is being carried out.

During its special drive against wildlife criminals and poachers since 2020, the STF has seized 22 leopard skins, 12 elephant tasks, 7 deer skins, 9 live pangolins and 15 kg of pangolin scales. As many as 52 wildlife criminals have been arrested during the period, according to an official release.
