Odia's across the world celebrating Pakhala Dibasa
Bhubaneswar: Nothing beats a bowl of Pakhala with a choice of side dishes! It's Pakhala Dibasa time again, which has been honoured in Odisha since 2015 to commemorate the state's favourite summer cuisine of fermented rice. It's also a tried-and-true way to beat the sweltering summer heat.
It's no surprise that this day falls on World Happiness Day and two days after World Sleep Day, because Pakhala is synonymous with both "happiness" and "sound sleep" for Odias all over the world.
On Sunday, many Odias and Pakhala enthusiasts, including politicians, bureaucrats, and actors, flocked to social media to express their love for the cuisine.
In a series of tweets in Odia and English, Pradhan said: “Pakhala is a meal that is a hit on every dining table and is the one thing that every Odia family has in common. Greetings to all Odias and food lovers on #PakhalaDibasa. The humble, healthy & flavourful delicacy is a must-try, especially for those uninitiated to Odia cuisine.”
