Cong MLA holds a Dharna in front of the police station in Jeypore
Jeypore: Tara Prasad Bahinipati, a Jeypore MLA, staged a dharna in front of the local police station on Sunday, seeking the arrest of miscreants who had attacked a young man in the town.
On Saturday night, several miscreants kidnapped Kartik Nag of Gopabandhu Nagar, according to sources. They thrashed him violently and fired at him as well. Kartik's family first admitted him to a local hospital before transferring him to Koraput Medical College when his condition deteriorated.
Kartik's family reported the incident to the Jeypore Town Police Station. The police filed a report and initiated a manhunt to apprehend the criminals.
When Congress member Bahinipati learned of the event, he staged a dharna in front of the Jeypore Town Police Station, supported by party workers.
The party workers also set up a roadblock on National Highway-26, which runs directly in front of the police station, stranding vehicles on both sides of the highway.

Though police led by the Additional Superintendent of Police attempted to persuade Bahinipati to end the protest by promising to take action in the case, the MLA claimed that he would continue his dharna till the accused were apprehended.
Bahinipati said that members of the ruling BJD were involved in the attack and that law and order had broken down in the district.
