Man jumps from running car during abduction, dies in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: On Thursday night, a man allegedly jumped off a moving vehicle and died while attempting to flee his kidnappers in Odisha's capital.

Bichitra Palei (42), a resident of Gadakana on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, has been identified as the deceased.

In this case, police have detained two people, including a woman, for questioning.

According to sources, Bichitra jumped out of a moving car at Vani Vihar Square around 9.25 p.m. and was spotted by locals as he ran towards Utkal University while being pursued by a youth and a woman. Passers-by came to his aid, and they also overpowered the chasers, who were residents of the city's Shantipalli slum.

They were later taken to the nearby Saheed Nagar police station, where Bichitra passed out and was taken to Capital Hospital. On the other hand, doctors at the government hospital declared him dead.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Bichitra had borrowed Rs 3 lakh from one of the accused and had failed to repay the money. The alleged kidnappers claimed he jumped out of the vehicle as they drove him from Patia to the police station.
