Mehul Choksi is back in Antigua, accuses Indian intelligence agencies of kidnapping him

New Delhi: Mehul Choksi, the fugitive businessman who was imprisoned for 51 days in Dominica, returned to Antigua on Thursday, saying he was "permanently traumatised" and blaming Indian law enforcement authorities for attempting to kidnap him.

“I’m back home but this torture has left permanent scars on my psychology and physically rather than permanent scars on my soul. I couldn’t imagine after closing all my business and seizing all my properties, kidnapping attempt would be made on me by Indian agencies,” he was quoted as saying by media.

The diamantaire, according to reports earlier in the day, arrived in Antigua and Barbuda, where he had lived since fleeing India in 2018. He is wanted in India for a fraud case involving the Punjab National Bank of Rs 13,500 crore.

Choksi has been detained in Dominica for the past 51 days for illegally entering the nation.

The Dominica High Court granted Choksi bail on medical reasons. He was given permission to return to Antigua for medical treatment from an Antigua-based neurologist. According to the Antigua News Room, he posted bail of 10,000 East Caribbean Dollars (approximately 2.7 lakh) in order to fly back to Antigua in a chartered flight wearing a shirt and shorts.

Choksi's medical results, including a CT scan, were submitted to his bail application. “Mildly worsening hematoma,” according to the findings. A neurologist and a neurosurgical expert urged an urgent review of his medical condition.

“At this time, the services are not available on the island” (Dominica). According to a CT scan report signed by Doctors Yerandy Galle Gutierrez and Rene Gilbert Veranes of Dominica's Princess Margaret Hospital on June 29, "any courtesies provided to him would be greatly appreciated."
