Bhubaneswar: The southwestern moonsoon would most likely retire from Odisha by 20 October, says the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Meteorological Centre.

Dr Uma Shankar Das, a senior scientist at the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Center, said monsoon retreat from India typically begins on 1 September, but this year there is a further delay.

He added "As for the modular research, the procedure would start on October 6 and will be delayed by around 36 days for Monsoon to be removed from India. The weather is presently conducive to monsoon withdrawal from the northwest of India, while Odisha will be fully retired by 20 October," Das added.

According to him, the Odisha process generally commenced after 45 days following its departure from north-west India after the explanation of a delay in monsoon withdrawal. But because of a range of low pressure zones developed across the Bay of Bengal, the moonsoon is still active in the state and is anticipated to be active for 45 days.

"While its exit from Odisha is likely to be delayed, the process will likely be significantly quicker. Taking these considerations into account, it is likely that the withdrawal procedure will end within 15 days rather than 45 days.
