Jagatsinghpur: All schools in the Jagatsinghpur district will be closed for two days until August 17 due to the possibility of flooding in several areas of Odisha.

The district collector reportedly gave the block education officers (BEO) instructions to close the schools owing to the flooding situation.

"Some schools have been reported to be under water or to be at risk of being under water due to flooding. In order to protect the safe custody of priceless assets, including electric and electronic equipment, school records, and MDM goods, the BEOs are instructed to close the schools, it was noted.

It is important to note that Jillanasi and Madhapur were flooded as a result of a significant breach on the Mahanadi embankment at Jaysankhapur in the Kujang neighbourhood of Jagatsinghpur that measured around 70 feet. The Paika River embankment nearby Badabalikani village has also seen a breach.
