President Murmu Walks On Bada Danda For Lord Jagannath’s Darshan

Puri: President Droupadi Murmu, upon her arrival in Puri today, threw VVIP etiquette to the breeze and stepped on the Bada Danda to visit the Shri Mandir for Lord Jagannath's darshan. Millions of people have been moved by the images of the President walking as a commoner from the Medical Chhak to the temple on the Bada Danda, greeting devotees along the route.
Like every proud Odia, the President first touched the Aruna Stambha (Sun Pillar) and requested blessings before proceeding to the Jagannath temple's Singhadwara (Lion doorway). She then cleansed her feet before entering the 12th century shrine, touching all 22 stairs as a gesture of respect to the goddesses.
