Cuttack: According to Prof Dateswar Hota, Dean & Principal of the SCB Medical College & Hospital, the SCB Medical College & Hospital is completely prepared to deal with the rise of COVID-19 patients caused by the Omicron variation.

He asked people not to be alarmed and to come the hospital only if they had a medical emergency, noting that admissions and the severity of COVID infection are still low.

Patients with minor illnesses can use the hospital's 24-hour telemedicine service to avoid going to the emergency room, he said.

He stated there were 600 beds available at the hospital to deal with the rise of COVID cases, including 140 ICU beds. In the fever clinic, there are 11 beds with oxygen.

Prof. Hota stated that there were enough doctors working around the clock, as well as ample oxygen and medical supplies. There are four dialysis units for COVID-infected kidney patients, 40 beds for COVID-infected pregnant women, and a unique COVID surgery theatre.

So far, no patient at the hospital has required ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) treatment.
