Vigilance cuffs on Jajpur district employment officer for taking ₹12k bribe

Jajpur: In the Jajpur district of Odisha, vigilance agents detained the District Employment Officer (DEO) on Monday for accepting a bribe of more than Rs 12,000 in cash.

The Vigilance Department set a trap after receiving a complaint from a driver alleging that Tapas Kumar Swain, District Employment Officer, Jajpur, demanded a bribe of Rs 12,600 through Jitendra Kumar Sethy, Junior Clerk of his office, in order to pay his bill for the hiring and fuel of the vehicle used for official business in his office.

According to the plan, Sethy was caught red-handed accepting the bribe while the complainant went to offer it. They took Sethy's possession of the entire bribe sum and recovered it.

Following the trap, the Vigilance department simultaneously searched Swain's homes in his native town of Athanga, under Niali police station in Cuttack district, his double-story building at K-4, 1417, Patrapada, Bhubaneswar, and his flat no. B-204, Kamala Vihar, Palasuni, all in Bhubaneswar.

In this regard, Cuttack Vigilance has filed a case under the PC Amendment Act, 2018, and additional inquiry into Swain and Sethy is ongoing.
