Bhawanipatna: In an uncommon occurrence, a woman in the Kalahandi district of Odisha wedded her husband to a member of the LGBTQ community during a traditional ceremony.

Fakir Nial, of Dhurkuti village in the district's Narla block, was reportedly married five years ago; the couple has a one-year-old child. A year ago, Fakir started dating Sangita, a member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community in his neighbourhood.

After some time, the wife of the Fakir discovered their relationship. She talked things over with her husband instead of voicing her disapproval or hostility. She was both aware of and accepting of the delicate connection.

They consented to the Fakir's wife's proposal that they get married in order to do Sangita justice and to give their relationship social respect.

According to the transgender community's customs, Fakir and Sangita's marriage was solemnised. The wife of the fakir attended the event herself and helped to organise all of the details.

Aisha Behera, a member of the LGBQT community, expressed her opinion on the marriage and expressed her support for the Fakir's wife's decision. "Even though the law of the land grants our community the right to equality, society has not openly welcomed us. The vast majority of people still have reservations about us. Sangita's marriage to a "regular" man in this circumstance is a positive development, she claimed.

People who oppose us should know that we also have the right to pick our partners, Aisha added, adding that this would open the door for them to accept the community. In the days to come, I hope that society will awaken as a result of the Fakir's wife's consciousness.
