Sambalpur: In the midst of the current heatwave, the temperature in Sambalpur reached 42 degrees Celsius by 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Jharsuguda and Hirakud each recorded 39.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Chandbali (39), Bhubaneswar (38.2), and Keonjhar (38.1), according to the regional center of India Metrological Department (IMD).

The day temperature is expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius in Sambalpur and 43 degrees Celsius in Sundargarh by the end of the day, according to forecasts. Jharsuguda, Boudh, Titlagarh, Rourkela, Balangir, and Angul may reach 42 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack may be around 41 degrees Celsius. The next two days are likely to be similar.

The scorching heat in western Odisha is being blamed on a lack of thunderstorm activity.

On Tuesday, 22 locations recorded temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or higher, compared to 17 on Monday. In seven locations across the state, the daytime temperature exceeded 42 degrees Celsius.
