Bahanaga train tragedy: CBI files chargesheet against three Railways officials
In the case involving the triple-train tragedy that occurred at Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha's Balasore district three months ago, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed a chargesheet against three Railway employees.
Bhubaneswar: In the case involving the triple-train tragedy that occurred at Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha's Balasore district three months ago, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed a chargesheet against three Railway employees.
According to official sources, the chargesheeted officials include the former SSE (Signal) before-charge Balasore, former SSE (Signal), Soro, and former Technician Balasore before the Special Judicial Magistrate's Court in Bhubaneswar.
Based on the evidence adduced during the investigation of the case, a commission of offences under sections 304 (Part II) of IPC (Culpable Homicide not amounting to murder), 34 r/w 201 of IPC (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence with common intention) and 153 of Railways Act, 1989 (Endangering safety of persons travelling by railways by wilful act or omission) were made out against the said accused, they said.
A charge sheet has been submitted against them as a result.
Following a request from the Ministry of Railways, approval from the government of Odisha, and additional directions from DoPT about the train accident involving the Coromandel Express, Yashwantpur-Howrah Express, and a Goods train near Bahanaga Bazar on June 2, the CBI had opened the current case on June 6, 2023.
The suspects are currently being held in judicial custody after being detained on July 7.
The possibility of additional people's involvement in the bigger plot and its aspect have been kept open for further inquiry.
