Bhadrak: 144 imposition in Vedanta Facor extended till April 19 morning

Bhadrak: As a precaution, the district administration has extended the prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC within a 200-metre radius of the Vedanta-Facor plant at Randia within the Bhadrak Rural police limits in Odisha for another 48 hours.

The restriction will be in effect until 6 a.m. on April 19.

This followed the death of one of the workers, who were airlifted to Mumbai's National Burns Hospital in critical condition last night, according to sources.

The enforcement has been extended for the third time, with no signs of improvement in the situation. The prohibitory orders were imposed on April 12 after tensions erupted over an industrial accident in which two workers suffered severe burn injuries, and they remained in effect until 6 a.m. on April 14. The orders were later extended and remained in effect until April 16.

Two contract workers were critically injured on April 11 when molten metal fell on them at the charge chrome plant. Following that, enraged employees and local anti-socials ransacked the plant office, destroying machinery and equipment and assaulting security personnel and officials.

The Vedanta-Facor labor union also filed a FIR against seven management employees for the mishap and demanded their immediate arrest, alleging that two similar mishaps occurred in the plant within 20 days due to the management's callousness.
