Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls 2024: NC's Farooq Abdullah announces alliance with Congress, seat-sharing finalized.
India Today reported that Congress wants to contest 12 seats in the Kashmir Valley, while offering 12 seats to the NC in the Jammu division.
National Conference President Farooq Abdullah announced on Thursday that the NC and Congress have finalized the seat-sharing for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. "The alliance is on track and it will proceed smoothly with God's grace," Abdullah said after meeting with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, who are currently in Jammu & Kashmir.
Abdullah confirmed that the seat-sharing agreement has been finalized for all 90 seats and will be approved by the evening. He also mentioned that the CPM is part of the alliance, with CPM's MY Tarigami also on board. Abdullah expressed hope that the people will support the alliance for the betterment of the region.
Earlier in the day, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi met with Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah at their residence in Srinagar.
According to India Today, Congress aims to contest 12 seats in the Kashmir Valley, while offering 12 seats to the NC in the Jammu division. The Jammu division has 43 assembly seats, while the Muslim-dominated Kashmir has 47.
Abdullah clarified that any pre or post-election alliance with the PDP will be decided after the assembly elections. When asked about the common minimum program for the alliance with Congress, Abdullah emphasized that their common program is to contest elections and defeat the divisive forces in the country.
