Deogarh: A Kanwaryia is said to have died in his sleep on the premises of a Shiva temple in Odisha's Deogarh district, where he had gone to pour holy water and offer prayers on the auspicious first Monday of the month of Shravan.
The incident occurred in the district's well-known Jhadeswar temple.  The deceased has been identified as Bibhuti Behera, a resident of Deojharan village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the district's Kundheigola police station.

Bibhuti, who works in a college in Dhenkanal, traveled to Deogarh on Sunday with 50 others from his village to perform the 'Jala Lagi' ritual at the temple on the first Shravan Somvar this morning.

On Sunday, the Kanwariyas collected water from a body of water and stored it on the temple grounds for worshiping Lord Shiva this morning.

Bibhuti was resting with other Kanwariyas on the temple grounds after dinner on Sunday night. He did not, however, awaken when his fellow Kanwarias summoned him for Jalabhisek on Shivling this morning. He was later taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

After receiving information, police officers rushed to the hospital and began an investigation into the incident. The cause of the devotee's death has yet to be determined.
