Bhubaneswar: On Monday, Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court to have a criminal case against the Odisha Lokayukta registered.

Panigrahi claimed in his plea that the Lokayukta had submitted a copy of a falsified High Court order in a matter before the Supreme Court. He asked the Supreme Court to file criminal charges against Justice Ajit Singh, the Lokayukta Chairperson, and Secretary Manas Ranjan Tripathi.

Panigrahi had already filed a contempt of court petition in the High Court against the Odisha Lokayukta on August 11.

Pitambar Acharya, Panigrahi's lawyer, said the Lokayukta's forgery was a judicial misconduct of the highest order.

“Despite his status as a former Justice, the Lokayukta has not only been found in contempt of court, but he has also gone so far as to forge the HC's order and take the issue to the Supreme Court. “An unscrupulous individual like this is unqualified to be the chairperson of the Lokayukta, which is a quasi-judicial position,” Acharya remarked.
