Congress has called for a bandh in Odisha tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: On Friday, the Congress organised a six-hour bandh in Odisha to urge its demand for Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra's resignation over his suspected ties to the key suspect in the sensational Mamita Meher murder case, Govind Sahu.

Debasish Patnaik, a spokesman for the Congress, told the media on Thursday that the party has limited the bandh to 6 hours in order to protect the livelihood of everyday employees who have been adversely impacted economically by the COVID outbreak and resulting shutdown.

He stated that the Congress will observe a bandh from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. across the state. He urged people to support the party during the bandh, saying that its workers will create road blockades and rail roko in different locations.

Moreover, during the shutdown, party workers would go around to enforce the closing of stores and business establishments, offices, educational institutions, and gas stations.

The bandh will not affect emergency services, though. The bandh will not affect hospitals, ambulances, or fire departments.

It should be highlighted that Mamita Meher, a 24-year-old teacher at Sunshine Model School in Mahaling, Kalahandi district, was murdered and her body was buried in the school's under-construction stadium.

On October 19, her body was exhumed. Mamita had gone missing on October 8 and her family had filed a police report.
