Sambalpur: On Thursday morning, a man allegedly jumped into the Mahanadi from the Chaurpur bridge in Odisha's Sambalpur district.
Samiran Pradhan, a resident of Patulidhipa village in Naktideul block, has been identified as the suspect. According to sources, he was working for a private company and living with his wife and two children in a rented house in Sambalpur.
This morning, his scooter, slippers, and phone were discovered on the bridge. After being alerted about the incident, Fire Service personnel launched a search operation, but he has yet to be found in the river, which is swelling due to water released from the Hirakud Dam.
The reason for his extreme action has yet to be determined, according to the sources.
