Baripada: Police in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district have seized three guns and arrested three people as part of their ongoing campaign against poachers and illegal arms traffickers.

Mayurbhanj SP Batula Gangadhar told reporters here on Friday that a special squad of the district police raided the house of Jadunath Hansda in Jadunathpur village under Badasahi police limits after receiving reliable information.

During the search, the team discovered two unlicensed country guns and arrested Hansda. He told the cops that he used the guns for poaching. Based on his information, the team apprehended two other poachers who assisted Hansda. Thakur Singh and Madhu Singh are their names.

During another raid, the team seized another country gun from Kasikundali village under Udala police station, but no one was arrested.

According to the SP, special teams have been formed to detect and arrest poachers who use illegal weapons. The action was taken in response to the recent killing of a forester by poachers in the district's Similipal Tiger Reserve.

It should be noted that on July 3, police raided a house in the district and seized a single barrel gun, four barrels, two barrel sockets, and one welding machine. Jitu Lohar, the unit's commander from Bejidiha village in Mahulidiha police station, was apprehended.
