Balasore: With students and their guardians concerned about attending classes at Bahanaga Bazar High School, where the bodies of the June 2 Odisha train accident victims were kept, Balasore Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde said on Thursday that the old building, which had some rooms converted into a temporary mortuary, might be demolished.
"I met with the school's management committee, staff, and local representatives." They proposed that the building with an asbestos roof be demolished because it is already very old and people are concerned because it was used as a mortuary. "I have requested that they pass a resolution on the subject, which can then be forwarded to the government for any necessary action," the collector said after visiting the educational institution where he spent around 45 minutes.
He did, however, say that the widespread belief that the building is haunted by 'ghosts' is unfounded. "There is no factual information about it." It is our responsibility to assist the student in developing a scientific temperament. The school was transformed, and a laboratory was built under 5T specifically for this purpose. Media outlets should refrain from broadcasting such false information. "We should concentrate on scientific temper and method and avoid such superstitions," he said.
The 65-year-old educational institution is a few hundred meters from the Bahanaga Bazar Station, where a train accident involving the Coromandel Express, the SMVP-Howrah Superfast Express, and a goods train killed 288 passengers.
