Odisha Vigilance nab Section Officer on charges of bribery

Bhubaneswar: Girija Shankar Das, a Section Officer at the office of the Commissioner of Food Safety in Bhubaneswar, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
According to sources, Das demanded bribe money from the complainant in order to process the file for changing the name of the latter's pharmacy's pharmacist. The section officer had assured him that he would get it done by influencing a member of the Drugs Controller's staff in Bhubaneswar, where he had previously served. The full amount of bribe money was recovered from his possession.
While a case has been filed under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act of 2018, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Das from a disproportionate angle, according to the sources.
