Jajpur: Three people were murdered, including a lady patient, and two others were critically injured after the ambulance they were riding in collided with a vehicle on NH-16 near Badachana in Odisha's Jajpur district on Saturday night.

According to authorities, the tragedy occurred while the woman patient was being transported from the Balasore district headquarters hospital to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in a 108- ambulance. After one of the truck's tyres blew, the driver of the ill-fated car lost control of the wheels and collided with it.

Patient Gitanjali Pradhan of Bhogarai in Balasore district, ambulance driver Bhaskar Sahoo, and pharmacist Hemant Kumar Badi have been named as the deceased.

The injured, identified as Gitanjali's husband Shiva Shankar Pradhan and aide Pradip Kumar Nayak, had to be rescued from the wrecked ambulance using a gas cutter. They were then transported to Badachana Hospital before being transferred to SCB.
