Anthrax outbreak: 1 dead, 5 affected  in Koraput

Jeypore: One person died and five others were infected by a probable anthrax epidemic in the Lamataput hamlet of Koraput district.

Officials said that at a banquet organised by Tukum tribals ten days ago, the victims caught the sickness and ingested meat.

During six villagers, one Dambu Krisani died. While six had signs of Anthrax. The Lamatapur Community Health Center has been accepted to two more.

Distribution of medications among the family members and family of the people afflicted has been initiated on the suspicion of further cases.

Koraput is the epicentre of the condition of anthrax and is normally detected in livestock during the wet season. Anthrax incidences in livestock blocks are reported annually in Lamataput, Nandapur, Semiliguda, Dasmantpur, Laxmipur, Narayanpathana and Bandhugam.
