Keonjhar: A couple were killed when their nine-year-old kid felt flames following an explosion in the refrigerator on Sunday evening after their home in the Balada village of Odisha, Keonjhar district.
Purnachandra Dehuri and his wife Laxmi were the two of them. The 9-year-old child was named as Barun by police.
The police said when an explosion took place in the refrigerator and a fire started the victims were sleeping. The home quickly became fiery.
At the time of the occurrence, the elder brother of Barun, Karan, was not in the house. He went to bed in the vicinity of a relative.
Barun woke up and hurried out as the fire broke out. He appealed for assistance from his brother and neighbours. Neighbors tried to save the pair but failed.
"My brother rushed to me sprinting, yelling our house was on fire. We hurried to help but our parents couldn't save," stated Karan.
"The people in the neighbourhood raced to the site and tried to water the flames. But at that time the pair were burnt to death," said a neighbour.
