Bhubaneswar: A Junior Assistant of a Community Health Center (CHC) in Thuamul Rampur, in the Kalahandi district of Odisha, was detained by Odisha Vigilance investigators on Wednesday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 9,000.

M. Dibyajyoti, the defendant, was later detained.

In order to process the file for obtaining the death certificates for his late father and five other deceased members of his village, he allegedly demanded the money from a BPL villager. He had asked for Rs 18,000 in two instalments, or Rs 3,000 for each certificate.

Based on the grievance made by the displeased villager, a trap was set, and Dibyajyoti was apprehended with the first instalment of 50% of the bribe amount in his office chamber.

His official residence in Kalahandi and his home in his hometown hamlet of Mahendrapur in Dhenkanal are both being simultaneously searched under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, according to reports.
