Balangir: A man allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday in the Balangir district of Odisha after suffering a significant financial loss in an investment plan involving the stock market.

According to authorities, the deceased, Vinod Kumar Yadav of Gandhala hamlet within the jurisdiction of Sindhekela police, took the drastic measure after being taken advantage of by a broker headquartered in Delhi.

Yadav allegedly promised to multiply the amount invested, therefore he received Rs 20 lakh from the broker, Om Prakash. He had borrowed Rs. 10 lakh from friends and family out of the whole sum.

The events leading up to his death are the subject of different reports. While some accounts claimed that Vinod had picked up a check in Delhi and ingested poison after it bounced, others claimed that he made several attempts to contact the suspected broker but received no response, and that after failing to see him, he committed himself upon leaving the national capital.

His relatives told the media that he committed suicide because of "extreme mental anguish" related to the loss and payback of the loan.

Vinod was sent to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital right after, but he passed away while receiving care.

The body has been taken by police for a postmortem, and an investigation into the occurrence has begun.
