Odia ICAS officer takes over as Controller General of Accounts
Bhubaneswar: On Sunday, Deepak Das, an Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer from Odisha, took over as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA).
He is the 25th officer to hold the position of CGA, and the first ICAS officer from Odisha to do so.
Cuttack is home to the officer from the 1986 batch.
Das held key positions in ministries such as Science & Technology, Environment & Forest, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade & Heavy Industries, Commerce & Textile, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Road Transport, Highways, Shipping, Home Affairs, and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs during his 35-year career, according to a PIB release.
He was also the Director of the Institute of Government Accounts and Finance (INGAF), the Indian Civil Accounts Service's training academy.
While on Central deputation to the Government of India, Das held prominent positions such as Deputy Secretary and Director in the Ministry of Defence and Member (Finance) in the Inland Waterways Authority of India, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Prior to taking over as CGA, he was the Central Board of Direct Taxes' Principal Chief Controller of Accounts, where he was instrumental in several key technology-driven initiatives relating to direct tax collection, reporting, and receipt accounting.
Das is a University of Delhi alumnus of Kirori Mal College.
