Brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore seized in Balasore, 3 held

Balasore: During a series of searches in the Balasore district of Odisha on Wednesday, excise sleuths reportedly collected brown sugar weighing about 1 kg and detained three narcotics dealers.

Following a tip, the excise officials conducted simultaneous raids at several places in the district's Jaleswar area and recovered illegal brown sugar that weighed close to 1 kg, they claimed.

During the raid, three narcotics dealers were also taken into custody. They also found other materials in the custody of the three.

Although the accused individuals' identities were not immediately revealed, one of them was claimed to be the local area's kingpin of the scheme.

The confiscated brown sugar is thought to have been trafficked into Odisha from nearby West Bengal. According to sources, the seized brown sugar had a market value of close to Rs 1 crore.

Although a case has been filed under the NDPS Act of 1985, additional research is being conducted to see whether other people are participating in the drug trade.
