CM announces cash award for Olympians

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the financial incentive for Odisha athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday: Rs 4 crore for gold and silver medals, Rs 2.5 crore for bronze.

The statement was made during a meeting between the Chief Minister and the attendees.

Mr. Patnaik congratulated the Odisha Olympians on their achievements and wished them all the best.

He also announced a Rs 1.5 lakh prize for each athlete who qualified for the Olympics. Every athlete's greatest dream, according to the Chief Minister, is to compete in the Olympics.

Welcoming Olympians Duti Chand, Pramod Bhagat, Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas, the Chief Minister said, “You have become a role model for the youth of Odisha. You are a source of pride for your family and for all of us.” 

Tusharkanti Behera, Odisha's Sports Minister, praised the athletes and expressed his hope that their victory at the Olympics will bring honour to Odisha in the sporting arena.
