Cong Activists Stage a One-of-a-Kind Protest in Odisha's Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: On Friday, Congress activists in Umerkote, Nabarangpur district, had their heads tonsured as part of a one-of-a-kind protest as part of the state-wide hartal.

Demonstrating against the State Government for failing to remove Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra, who is accused of being involved in the sensational Mamita Meher murder case,

Under the leadership of PCC secretary Khemraj Bagh of Chandahandi block, Congress activists had their heads shaved (mundan) in order to demand justice for the schoolteacher.

Despite the Orissa High Court's ruling that no bandh be observed and only hartal be allowed, the impact was felt more strongly in the district, with Congress activists conducting agitations at major intersections early in the morning.

"Even after a month, the death of Mahaling schoolteacher Mamita Meher in Kalahandi district has remained a mystery. The state government, on the other hand, is attempting to protect the minister. Instead of taking action, the Chief Minister, by sharing the dais with the minister, is allegedly promoting the perpetrator as well as crime," a protestor claimed.
