Sundergarh: Police in this city prevented a big bank robbery on Tuesday. Jayadev Nayak, the bank robber, was revealed to be the son of a police officer. When police sprung into action and apprehended the suspect, he was escaping with Rs 15 lakh cash from Axis Bank.

Around 2.30 p.m., an armed guy entered the bank and demanded cash from employees at one of the counters, according to Lakheswar Maharana, Branch Manager, Axis Bank, Sundargarh.

He bolted with whatever cash he could get his hands on shortly after. Police raced to the scene after being alerted and pursued the criminal. Nayak opened fire to escape being captured, and the cops replied. SP Sagarika Nath said he was apprehended near Shankara Road after a few rounds of gunfire from both sides. According to her, the accused's cash and handgun have been seized.

Jaydev is the son of a Sundargarh Sadar police officer. The armed criminal intimidated a bystander and stole his motorcycle while attempting to flee after robbing an Axis Bank at gunpoint.
