Doctor caught running clinic during office hours from official quarter

Nayagarh: On Monday, a paediatrician working at the district headquarters hospital in Nayagarh, Odisha, and two of his colleagues were arrested for allegedly conducting a clinic from his official quarters.

After receiving many complaints, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Dr Makaranda Beura, performed a surprise inspection at the quarters of the child specialist, Dr Asish Dixit.

During duty hours, he ran the clinic from his official quarters, collecting Rs 300 in fees from each patient, according to reports.

"Government hospital doctors can see patients at their homes after working hours. Dr. Dixit's name was missing from the OPD doctors' roster in this case. "Instead, he was offering OPD services from his quarters," Dr. Beura explained.
