Droupadi Murmu Receives Grand Welcome in Delhi

Bhubaneswar: NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu arrives in Delhi on Thursday after a triumphant departure from Bhubaneswar airport. At the Delhi airport, she was welcomed by BJP officials.

On the 16th presidential election, which is planned for July 18, she is expected to submit her nomination papers on Friday.

Two Odisha Cabinet Ministers, Jagannath Saraka and Tukuni Sahu, have signed the presidential candidate's nomination papers in New Delhi as instructed by BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Sasmit Patra, an Odisha representative to the Rajya Sabha, was also present. They will also be present when Murmu files his nomination on Friday.

Naveen tweeted earlier in the day about his chat with JP Nanda, the head of the BJP at the national level, and mentioned that two ministers will be travelling to Delhi to officially ratify her nomination. Crossing party lines, the state's chief executive had earlier encouraged all MLAs to support the "Daughter of Odisha."

Murmu very certainly will receive the 50% of first preference votes needed in the electoral college to win the next President's office thanks to the BJD's support for her. Approximately 48% of the votes go to the NDA, while 2.85% go to the BJD.

Along with the BJD, Murmu has received backing from the Janata Dal (United) and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas). Conrad Sangma, the leader of the National People's Party (NPP) and the chief minister of Meghalaya, as well as Nephiu Rio, the chief minister of Nagaland, will take part in the nominating process for the presidential election on Friday. Nitish Kumar would reportedly be present for the nomination as well.

When elected, Murmu, who already enjoys the distinction of being the first female governor of Jharkhand, will also make history by becoming the first tribal person of Odia descent to hold the office of president. She is a member of the Myurbhanj district of Odisha's Santhal caste.
