Dhenkanal: On Monday, a girl student was killed after being hit by a bus on NH 55 near Baghalunda village in Odisha's Dhenkanal district.

Ipsita Barala, a Plus-II first-year student at Satyam Shivam Sundaram College in the district and a native of Belapada village, has been identified as the deceased.

According to sources, the accident occurred when Ipsita was riding her scooter to college with her friend Shreyashree Mohanty of Kaunriapala village to attend the annual ceremony. They were sent to the district headquarters hospital in Dhenkanal, where physicians ruled Ipsita dead.

Following the accident, local residents and college students blocked the roadway at Dhalapur Chhak in order to demand compensation for the deceased family. They further claimed that ash powder used for road expansion in the area impaired vision, resulting in the collision.

Soon after, police and the local tehsildar arrived and calmed the outraged townspeople and students.
