Ahead Of Naveen’s Bargarh Visit, Cops Pick Up Protesters Of Opposition Parties

Bhubaneswar: Irasis Acharya, the president of the Odisha BJP Yuva Morcha, was arrested in Bhatli on Saturday morning before of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's visit to Bargarh.

Prior to Naveen's arrival, police arrested 12 BJP workers, including the party's Krushak Morcha president, and five Congress workers, including the district party president.

After opposition parties scheduled protests during Naveen's visit to Bijepur, police have tightened security. According to sources, 18 police platoons have been sent.

Naveen will distribute Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) Smart health cards in Bijepur, kicking off a campaign that would see 3.63 lakh Smart health cards distributed across the district's 12 blocks.

The BJP and the Congress have been protesting across the state, seeking justice in the death of Mamita Meher and the expulsion of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra.

The CM launched BSKY Smart cards in Kalahandi district on November 8 during a programme in Bhawanipatna, sharing the dais with Mishra, angering the Opposition parties, who are unhappy with Naveen's silence on the subject and the minister's continued position in the Cabinet.

The BJP and the Congress have stepped up their rallies, seeking Mishra's removal.
