Men waving BJD flags assaulted Cong workers before Naveen's visit to Bargarh
Bargarh: Congress workers were allegedly beaten up by BJD supporters before of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's visit to Bijepur in Bargarh district on Saturday, in a replay of the Kuchinda incident in Sambalpur district.
According to sources, some Congress workers protested the Mamita Meher murder case at Alibali Chhak in Bijepur, waving black flags. They were chanting anti-government slogans and demanding the resignation of minister Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged ties to the case's chief suspect, Govind Sahu.
Before the chief minister's carcade arrived, a group of people carrying BJD flags gathered on the scene and began beating up protesting Congress workers in the presence of police.
The incident injured the district head of the Chhatra Congress as well as three other Congress workers. Later, police intervened and arrested the Congress employees.
Prior to the chief minister's arrival, police detained some BJP workers in Bhatli, including Odisha BJP Yuva Morcha president Irasis Acharya and Congress workers.
On November 2, a Youth Congress leader was allegedly attacked by BJD members in Kuchinda during a demonstration against the chief minister's programme.
On Friday, the Congress declared a state-wide hartal over the Mamita Meher case, vowing to continue protesting at all of the chief minister's events till Mamita's family receives justice.
