IMD Alerts Fresh Low Pressure Over Bay Of Bengal
Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday announced the formation of a new low-pressure system over the north Bay of Bengal around August 13. The depression over Chhattisgarh and adjacent east Madhya Pradesh has weakened into a well-marked low pressure, but the low pressure system has formed over the region since August 12.
It also predicted that the system would likely intensify over the next 24 hours and proceed in a west-northwesterly trajectory.
Senior meteorologist at the IMD in this area Umasankar Das predicted earlier in the day that rainfall intensity will drop on August 11–12 before increasing once more on August 13 due to an intense southwest monsoon.
Notably, the state's nine districts are on orange alert for the upcoming 24 hours, while a yellow rain warning has been issued for ten districts. On August 13, the MeT office had predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) was likely to fall in isolated locations in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Kandhamal, and Ganjam, with heavy rainfall also being very likely in one or two locations in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Boudh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda.
