Bridge collapses in Nuapada amid heavy rains
Nuapada: A bridge over the Jonk River in Odisha's Nuapada district collapsed on Wednesday as a result of heavy rains, cutting off road access to numerous parts of the state as well as the neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
After two days of nonstop rain, a significant piece of the bridge connecting Sarabanga and Amanara over the Jonk River has collapsed. The river was in flood due to the nonstop rain. According to accounts, no one was hurt or harmed in the incident.
Villagers in the region said that the bridge's construction was of low quality and requested that the authorities take quick action to begin restoration work.
They claimed that a significant number of vehicles were still stuck on both sides of the road and that vehicular communication between many parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh had been significantly hampered.
Senior officials were assessing the situation, and steps for rehabilitation work will be launched as soon as the intensity of the rain lessened, according to sources.
In Nuapada, several villages, agricultural fields, and low-lying areas were submerged by water during a significant downpour.
