Bhubaneswar: Cross-party political figures congratulated Suresh Routray, a veteran Congress politician and Jatni MLA, a happy 79th birthday on Tuesday.

At his home in Jatni, a sizable group of Congress workers, his supporters, and people from many walks of life showed up to wish Routray. On the occasion, they gave him garlands and bouquets as well as their congratulations. Along with his well-wishers, he also cut a cake.

A number of BJD leaders and MLAs also sent their congratulations to Routray on the occasion. Routray received a particular wish for a long and healthy life from Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das. She wished him a long life of birthday celebrations, continued happiness, and involvement in politics in Odisha.

He told reporters that his life's purpose has been to serve people since he was a small child. In addition to Biju Patnaik, Harekrushna Mahtab, Nilamani Routray, J Patnaik, Nandini Satpathy, and Naveen Patnaik, I have also worked with them. We have built 42 high schools, 13 colleges, and 10 hospitals in Jatni and Bhubaneswar with the aid of my party and followers, he claimed.

He said, "As a sports enthusiast, I have over the years supplied playgrounds and sporting amenities to young people as well as encouragement."

The MLA said that he has always been pleased no matter what the circumstances are, which keeps him active at this age. "I interact with people, work with them, and solve their problems to keep myself happy," he stated.

Regarding his popularity even among political competitors, Routray claimed he did not view them as adversaries but rather as colleagues in the political sphere. You can see that a large number of BJD legislators and leaders have come to wish me. I do not harbour any political animosity. Despite my ideological differences, I appreciate working with leaders from all parties for the benefit of the people, he remarked.

Routray urged the young people not to succumb to any form of intoxication in his speech to them that day. "Pay attention to your future and serving your country. The time is now to pursue education and a career. Don't waste it by abusing alcohol and drugs, he counselled.

The MLA has planned a special supper for the occasion for the underprivileged and defenceless residents of his district.
