Chilika MLA: I am not to be blamed for the accident
Bhubaneswar: Prasanta Jagadev, a suspended BJD MLA from Chilika who was arrested for allegedly ramming his SUV into a crowd, said on Wednesday that he was not to blame for the incident and that he had accidentally hit the accelerator after being subjected to a murderous attack by BJP workers. This was his first public statement since the Supreme Court (SC) released him on bail last month.
"I'm not apologising because I wasn't at fault. With the purpose to kill me, BJP members attacked me strategically close to the Banapur block office. I was viciously attacked with sticks in a savage assault. I had a blackout, which caused me to inadvertently push the accelerator, he informed the journalists.
In response to his expulsion from the BJD, Jagadev claimed he remained a committed member of the organisation. "I am a devoted employee of the BJD. I adhere to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's ideals and values. I'm still working for the party," he declared.
Jagadev was released from the Banapur sub-jail in Odisha's Khurda district after the SC granted him bail last month.
The lawmaker was detained on March 22 after it was claimed that he drove his SUV into a gathering of people waiting outside the Banapur block office on March 12 to be elected to the position of Panchayat Samiti Chairperson. In all, 22 individuals were hurt in the incident, including police officers. Additionally hurt was Jagadev after an enraged mob beat him and looted his car.
