Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at one or two locations in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Rayagada, Angul, Koraput, and Malkangiri until 8.30 am on Friday due to the cyclonic circulation currently over southern coastal Andhra Pradesh and the surrounding area.

In Dhenkanal, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Boudh, Puri, Kencrapada, and Jajpur, light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells is likely, according to a nowcast warning.

While light to moderate rain will continue to fall throughout the state through October 10, heavy rain is predicted for one or two locations in Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Rayagada, and Puri on October 9.

Uma Shankar Das, a senior scientist at IMD, told the media that rain will continue to fall in South and Coastal Odisha due to the active cyclonic circulation along Andhra Pradesh's coast its surroundings.

"The heaviest rainfall in the previous 24 hours was recorded in Koraput and Ganjam. From Balasore to Gajapati, the impact was felt in the coastal regions, according to him.
