Jalaka River Crosses Danger Mark In Odisha’s Balasore, villagers panicked

Balasore: The water level of the Jalaka river in Balasore district has above the danger mark following persistent rainfall in the higher catchments over the last three days due to low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.

By 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to sources in the district control room, the water level of Jalaka at Mathani in Basta block was running at a height of 5.70 metres, well beyond the danger mark of 5.5 metres.

Floodwater will infiltrate the seven panchayats of Mathani, Baharda, Dudhahansa, Sadanandapur, Barunagadia, Chakurai, Darida, Gadipada, and Routapada in the Basta block, as well as two panchayats in the Sadar block, if the water level rises to 6.5 metres, according to the Water Resources Department.
